About BLACK TERRACE
― The Grill and Craft ―

A hidden gem within walking distance of Shibuya and Nakameguro, our restaurant offers a warm and inviting atmosphere.
We specialize in premium steaks grilled over binchotan charcoal and wood fire,
accompanied by seasonal vegetables sourced from selected farmers and carefully prepared fresh fish.
Seating includes a main dining area, a terrace, semi private lounges, and a private room, offering a setting suited to any occasion.
A striking mural by San Francisco based artist Ian Ross adds a contemporary artistic touch to the space.
Two Fires,
One Expression of the Meat
– Fire – Season – Art –
Fire and the ingredient take centre stage.

At BLACK TERRACE, our cuisine is centred on meat,
grilled over two distinct fires, wood flame and binchotan charcoal.
The intense radiant heat of binchotan swiftly seals the surface,
locking in the natural juices while gently carrying heat to the core.
Layered over this is the soft warmth of the wood fire,
along with the aroma that rises from it.
The exterior is delicately charred,
while the centre remains tender and succulent.
As excess fat and moisture fall onto the charcoal,
they rise again as smoke, gently enveloping the meat.
This imparts a subtle smokiness and a depth of flavour that unfolds with a quiet and lingering complexity.

Only carefully selected ingredients can truly respond to this approach to fire.
At the centre of each dish is the meat, including USDA Prime Angus beef,
along with a selection of exceptional Japanese cuts,
chosen for the way their flavour is most beautifully revealed over fire.
Among them is a rare offering, a domestic Japanese T bone cut,
seldom seen and uniquely suited to this style of cooking,
bringing both depth and character to the experience.
Vegetables and seafood are treated with the same care,
with seasonality and freshness held above all else.
Working closely with markets and trusted producers,
we source ingredients at their peak,
each chosen for the vitality they bring in that moment.
Wood fire and charcoal are not universal flames.
They reveal their true character only with the right cuts of meat,
those that can meet the intensity of the heat and be transformed by it.
